Practice Cryptography!

Even with all of the cryptologic and cryptographic technology that has existed in the world for the past 60 years, we still don't really know what encryption is good for or how to use it -- or, more importantly, why it's important. Maybe it's time for people and coders to actually start practicing how to use it, like any other skill.

eSNACC and Crypto++... eSNACC is a free (unencumbered) ASN.1->C/C++ compiler, provided by digitalnet.com. Crypto++ is a free C++ library (available at http://cryptopp.sf.net/) that can be used by eSNACC to perform some of its validation tests.

Digitalnet also supplies certificate management and verification utilities -- I'm not sure if these utilities are available for creating certificates (I've not looked at the documentation fully yet), but it seems promising.

This is all for people who are trying to avoid OpenSSL due to its numerous interface issues. As far as I can tell, these do NOT implement SSL or TLS, merely cryptography and certificate parsing/verification.
